The first StAnD asteroid campaign, in collaboration with IASC, finished on 19 November, with the participation of 6 teams from Portuguese and Italian schools. The campaign was successful in reporting 8 preliminary discoveries, thanks to the hard work of students and educators closely studying the images from the PAN Starrs telescope in HawaÏ. These preliminary results still need to be validated to provisional status, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
The second campaign finished on 18 December, with even more participation from StAnD teams. In fact, the first campaign was so successful in engaging teachers and students that many schools gained confidence with their first experience and came back for more in the second campaign! Three schools in France were bitten by the bug, joined by teams from Portugal, Spain and India! We are thrilled to announce that they reported 16 preliminary discoveries!
At the time of writing, the third campaign was still underway, and we have teams from Portugal, France, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Romania, we’ll let you know how they get on in the next newsletter.

If you couldn’t manage to take part, don’t despair! There are two more dedicated StAnD Asteroid Campaigns left this year: 21 February to 19 March and 23 April to 19 May.
So if you and your school are interested in joining this observational challenge, email us at iasc@nuclio.org.
