In case you missed this, StAnD has opened an Image Competition for students using robotic telescopes (and there’s also a category for images from StAnD meteor detection cameras, if the students have access to one)!

Students can enter the best astronomy image they have with a professional robotic telescope, the winning images will be included in the StAnD 2027 Calendar, and all selected entries will appear in the StAnD Image Gallery on the project website, with full credit to the student(s) and school.
What’s more, the students’ work and the calendar will be presented to an audience of international scientists at the Committee on Space Research 46th Scientific Assembly in Florence, Italy, 1-9 August 2026!
This is a great way to help your classes engage with astronomy and enable them to learn how to use The Schools Observatory.
There are five categories of images:
- Gas Nebulae
- Galaxies
- The Moon
- Comets and Asteroids
- Meteor Camera Images
Full details can be found here (in English, French, German, Greek, Italian and Portuguese) and the deadline is 29 May 2026.
