StAnD started off as a European project, but it has already surpassed our expectations by reaching well beyond the five original countries involved (France, Greece, Germany, Italy and Portugal). We now have participants from as far away as Uzbekistan, and this week we heard from a teacher in Eskişehir, Turkey who wanted to share their experience.

Semih Esendemir says: “It’s great to be part of this project. My students are very happy to be part of this project and to search for asteroids. It’s a great experience.
We are participating with 12 students, aged 13 to 15, in middle and high school. As a teacher, I am very pleased that my students are analyzing real astronomical data images and searching for asteroids in an international project. I really liked that it was a hands-on activity and that the software used was suitable for students… My students say that searching for asteroids is a lot of fun and just as exciting.”

The next StAnD Asteroid Campaign is from 15 October to 10 November 2025 – why not join in and give your students the opportunity to analyze real scientific data in an international project, and maybe even detect a new asteroid?
