We’re excited to announce the first joint detection of a fireball from all StAnD meteor detection cameras in Greece! The fireball was captured by the cameras on 8 January at 22:00:07 UTC. All three Greek StAnD cameras (EA01: High School of Avlonari, Evia; EA02: Ellinogermaniki Agogi; EA03: SEK Thivas) were able to capture it, as you can see in the images below.

Compare these images of the same object captured by cameras in (left to right) the High School of Avlonari, Evia; Ellinogermaniki Agogi, Pallini, and SEK, Thivas, Greece

The next step could be to calculate the trajectory. If your school doesn’t have a StAnD camera, you can still use these images, or others, to learn about the principle of triangulation to compute the distance and position of a celestial object. Check out this activity in the StAnD virtual toolkit.
